# Runaway Republic
The **Runaway Republic** was the largest nation on the Yang Island during PGNP's *Yin & Yang Experiment*. Centered on the Yang volcano, it began as the settlement of **Croissant Creek** and grew into a multi-city state under **Augur**, who held the title of "Big Brother." Over the course of the event it shifted from an ordinary frontier nation into the central instigator of the islands' only full-scale war.
## Founding
The nation traces its origin to **Croissant Creek**, a settlement founded on Day 1 by **FrogAProblem** on the rim of the Yang volcano, chosen in part for the gold buried beneath it, the volcano being the one place on diamond-rich Yang that held gold instead. After **Duckman** (Hypelll), a solo player, repeatedly tried to build beneath the settlement and was evicted, the resulting disorder pushed Croissant Creek's residents to seek formal leadership.
## Government
Croissant Creek established a council of four officials known as the **Brothers**: Daltom, MrMonkeyz, Wylltea, and DrAnpassung. Their sole task was to elect a single leader, the **Big Brother**. They chose **Augur**, who consolidated control, declared the surrounding territory the Runaway Republic, and named Croissant Creek its capital. FrogAProblem, the original founder, objected that an elected outsider now governed the city he had built and demanded Augur step down. Augur had him killed, the first of several internal purges.
## Expansion and Alliances
Augur pursued aggressive diplomacy. He absorbed the nearby **Cherry Pyramid** by allying with the solo player **BuildingHero**, making Runaway the island's first multi-city team. When the borders between the islands dropped on Day 4, Augur crossed to Yin and secured an alliance with **Kirin**, the strongest Yin nation, led by **Kayzo**.
## The Deception and War
The Republic's defining act was a lie. Augur, increasingly paranoid after contracting an in-game roleplay illness that his nation's doctor attributed to "corruption from Yin," told Kayzo that **The Balance**, the rival Yang nation led by **zhdna**, had been sacrificing players in the volcano. In reality it was the Runaway Republic that had killed people there. The false accusation turned Kirin's forces against The Balance.
A chain of spying, an accidental invasion of Balance territory, and a retaliatory execution collapsed the fragile peace into open war on Day 5. The combined armies of Kirin and the Runaway Republic overwhelmed The Balance and killed zhdna.
## Decline and Fate
Augur did not survive his own victory. After the fighting, captured Balance members and Augur's own follower **Nuyu** confirmed that the volcano-sacrifice story had been fabricated and that the Republic itself was guilty of it. His remaining supporters abandoned him. Kayzo issued a worldwide manhunt; Augur was tracked to the ruins of the Yang volcano, captured on Day 6, tried at the Cherry Pyramid, and executed, defiant to the end, insisting everything he did was "for the good of Yang." With its capital destroyed and its leader dead, the Runaway Republic effectively ceased to exist.
